The Author Website Design Process

Curious about how the author website design process works?

1. Fill out the Author Website Design Work Order Form

This helps Le Villain Book Covers understand the vision you have for your author website and helps ensure we are both on the same page.

2. Pay the Design Fees or a Deposit

After you receive the quote based on the information you provided on the work order form, pay the design fee or a 50% deposit.

3. Create the Content

While waiting for your payment or 50% deposit, I will ask you for a list of content with headers, images, and links.

4. Design & Build

I’ll create your site and keep you updated along the way. At this stage once I’ve completed the home page, I will create a temporary read-only log-in so you can see the site before it’s live.

5. The Revision Process

Next, Le Villain Books Covers will work with you to create the best possible author website. Each website package includes two rounds of revisions. This is your chance to fine-tune the design, update copy, or adjust layout elements before launch. Additional revisions can be quoted if needed.

6. Pay the Final Installment

Pay the final instalment—I will send you the final invoice via email if you chose the payment plan option.

7. It’s Launch Day

Once the final balance is paid, your website goes live. You’ll also receive one month of post-launch email support for minor edits and questions.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will my website take to build?

Most websites take between 2 to 6 weeks, depending on the package you choose and how quickly I receive your content and feedback. I’ll give you a clearer timeline when we begin your project. But I can build a simple website within a few days. All timeframes on the packages are worst case scenarios.

Do your prices include VAT?

I do not charge VAT because I’m not registered.

Will you teach me how to update my website?

Yes, I will tech you how to update your website with video tutorials. At this time I don’t have a course but I’m in the process of working towards building a course for all my web design clients. All packages come with page templates for pages like books, blog posts or news as standard, and section templates for your home page which will make website changes much easier.

But I understand that not everyone wants to do these things for themselves. I get it; you just want to write.

If you like, you can book a one-to-one office hours session, where I can answer your questions live. After the session, I’ll send you a link to the video recording, with timestamps. Or you can purchase monthly email support for £15.00. if you want me to WordPress Core Updates, Plugins Updates, troubleshooting, and email support for £30.00 per month.

Is there a limit to the number of book pages you can design in your pages?

No, there is not limit to the number of individual book pages because once I create one page, the rest will be created based on that template. On your website you will have a single books page with all your titles and buttons to access the individual books page.

If you want organise your books by series or a page purely for short stories and want an additional dedicated page, you will need to purchase this separately as an add-on. This page will appear in a list under the books menu item as a dropdown list.

What do I need to provide before we start?

You’ll need to send over your written content (like your bio, book blurbs, and contact info), any images you’d like used (such as your book covers or author photos), and links to your mailing list or social media profiles. I’ll guide you through exactly what’s needed once your booking is confirmed.

Do I need to purchase hosting or a domain?

No. All website packages include 12 months of hosting. If you don’t already have a domain (like yourauthorname.com), I can help you choose and register one, but domain fees are separate and paid directly to the registrar (usually around £10–£15/year).

Can I update my website myself?

Yes. Your website will be built with WordPress and the Divi Theme, which makes it relatively easy to update text and images once it’s live. I also offer 1 month of post-launch email support to help with basic edits or questions. If you’d prefer not to do it yourself, you can also add ongoing support.

What if I need changes after the site goes live?

I offer a monthly support add-on that covers small updates and tech help. You can also request larger updates (like adding a new page or feature), and I’ll provide a quote based on what you need.

Will my site be mobile-friendly?

Absolutely. Every website is built to be responsive, which means it will look good and work properly on desktops, tablets, and phones.

What happens after the first year of hosting?

After your included 12 months, you can either:

  • Renew your hosting and maintenance plan through me at the current rate, or
  • Migrate your site to your own hosting account (I can assist with that for a one-time fee)

Either way, you’ll always have full ownership of your website.

Do you offer eCommerce or shop features?

Sorry, not at this time. At present, I’m testing my skills on a few sites, including this one, but I’m not yet ready to roll it out as a service just yet.

What are the on-going costs associated with an author website?
